1st of July 2007~ HK SAR 10th Anniversary

Today was crazy.. We met at 6am at the lobby of our hostel to go to HK island.. to watch the flag raising ceremony for HK SAR 10th Anniversary celebration.. We reached Wan Chai around 7+am but was not able to get near the HK Exhibition Center... The place was blocked off... :(

As a result, we only got to see the flag raising from far.. the HK SAR government were afraid of the prostesters which we heard carried a fake coffin along for the protest....

After the flag raising, helicopters carrying the HK SAR and China flag flew across the sky leaving red smoke behind....

Then, it was the boats and ferries turn to parade in front of the Victoria Harbour...
We were rather disappointed to not be able to go nearer for the flag raising ceremony.. We didn't get to see the protesters too.. We only saw A LOT of policemen stationed everywhere.. and a big bunch of them were in front of the immigration department, near the HK Exhibition Center..
There were also a lot of police vans and ambulance around...

It was only around 8+am when the ceremony ended.. So, we went to McD for breakfast.. HK McD has macaroni for breakfast.. with either ham or sausage and egg... and their sausages are made of pork not chicken meat :)
After breakfast, most of us decided to go back to hostel to sleep.. except for of us-Thunder, Irene, SH and me!
Our plan was to go shopping around Causeway Bay (tong lo wan) but it was only 9am! So, we slowly walked over to Causeway Bay and sat in ANOTHER McD! and planned our schedule for the rest of the month here.. HeHe..
At about 11am, we started our shopping spree... which ended around 3+pm, when we decided to eat lunch! HaHa.. Ate at Maxim Cafe (which also have a lot of bakeries all over HK)... I ate Crispy Pork Chop Bun.. nice :)
We continued with some more shopping before taking the MTR back to Tsim Sha Tsui for the fireworks display at the Victoria Harbour...
We were there rather late as compared to other ppl, so we were not able to get to the Avenue of Stars where we can see the fireworks display more clearly.. Sadly, we stood on a flyover towards the East Tsim Sha Tsui area :(
The fireworks were rather disappointing in the beginning.. with little spurts here and there.. and we were so far away :(
But then, after 10 mins or so, the real non-stop fireworks display started! for about half an hour continuously! Ppl started ooh aah-ing then.. HaHa
It was really rather nice.. especially the heart-shaped, smiley face and flower-shaped fireworks.. and also the star-shaped.. and star dust... the last few minutes were spectacular and everyone was happy at the end... We clapped and cheered for HK's 10th anniversary of returning to her motherland... :)
There were SOOOOO many ppl on the street.. It was rather crazy but thanks to the very systematic and nice policemen, it was well controlled...
We couldn't find a place for dinner cause everywhere was packed with people.. So, we had to buy some instant food from the convenience store- called OK :) and ate in the park... o_O
So tired now... There is a party downstairs.. with the Taiwanese but I'm too tired to go.. Tomorrow, we are going to the Shatin Racecourse :) and then Tsim Sha Tsui again to get our China visa...
